Tabloid Bild will replace editors with artificial intelligence

Tabloid Bild will replace editors with artificial intelligence

[ad_1]

The best-selling newspaper in Europe – the German tabloid Bild – will replace a number of positions with artificial intelligence. This is stated in the publisher’s e-mail to the editorial staff, which was seen by another German newspaper, Frankfurter Allgemeine.

Bild “will part with colleagues who have tasks performed by artificial intelligence and/or automated processes.” In particular, the roles of some editors, photo editors and proofreaders “will no longer exist in the form in which they exist today,” the letter says.

The introduction of artificial intelligence and the reduction of the number of regional publications will lead to the dismissal of about 200 people from Bild.

Earlier, the general director of the media group that publishes Bild, Matthias Döpfner, stated that the publishing house should become a “purely digital media company.” He argued that neural networks like ChatGPT could “make independent journalism better than it’s ever been, or replace it.” ChatGPT can write code, poems and even scientific papers, however, the neural network can give incorrect information or make up sources.

BuzzFeed also planned to use artificial intelligence for content creation – in particular, for online quizzes. The British newspapers Daily Mirror and Daily Express are also studying the possibility of using neural networks.
