In Michigan, a meteorite worth $75,000 was used on a farm to prop up a door. Science Alert writes about it. A man named David Mazurek bought the farm in 1988. The previous owner showed him the property. While inspecting, David noticed a large, strange stone that had been used to open the barn door. When he asked the owner about the object, he replied that it was actually a meteorite that fell on their property back in the 1930s. Together with their father, they found a crater and dug up a cosmic body. The meteorite went to Mazurek as ordinary property. For thirty years he propped up the door with him. Only sometimes children took a stone to school. However, recently David has noticed that small scraps are being sold for money. So he decided to value his stone. He sold it to Michigan State University’s Abrams Planetarium for $75,000. The space stone was named Edmore. And now it is one of the largest registered in the state.
