How Ukrainians travel around the country during a full-scale war – survey

[ad_1]

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, more than 45% of surveyed Ukrainians have traveled to the country for the purpose of tourism. Such data was obtained by the State Agency for Tourism Development after interviewing five thousand people aged 14 to 34. So, over the past year and a half, 26% of respondents traveled once or twice, 12% of respondents traveled three to five times, and 7% traveled more than five times. How the attitude towards travel has changed due to the full-scale war Since February 24, when the borders were closed for men, some families have started to develop domestic tourism. However, there are those who, on the contrary, are afraid to leave their homes and believe that it is inappropriate to travel during a war. Photo: gpointstudio/Depositphotos The State Agency published statistics on travel attitudes due to the full-scale invasion among 5,000 surveyed Ukrainians: 23.2% have not changed their travel attitudes; 21.1% believe that travel supports the country’s economy; 20.7% avoid any trips due to possible danger; 11.7% do not consider it appropriate to travel during martial law. 48% of respondents said that most Ukrainians go on a trip in the summer. Only 4% choose spring for a trip, autumn – almost 3%, winter – only 2%. However, travel is not only influenced by the season, but also by other criteria. For example, 56% said that the choice of season depends primarily on vacation or school holidays for children. For 22% of respondents, the choice is influenced by price, and weather conditions are important for 22%. What recreation do Ukrainians prefer? Despite the war, different types of tourism are developing in Ukraine, so every Ukrainian can choose what he likes. 54% – choose urban tourism and hiking; 28% – go on excursions to historical monuments and museums; 23% – relax on the beach; 23% – use event tourism (festivals and events); 22% – study gastronomic preferences in the regions; 11% – choose ecotourism; 9% prefer recreational tourism. The head of the State Tourism Development Agency of Ukraine, Maryana Oleskiv, noted that during the full-scale invasion, domestic tourism became the basis for the country’s tourism industry as a whole. “Travelling in Ukraine today is not only a way to relax, but also a means of physical recovery and psychological relief, both for our defenders and their families, as well as for civilians. And it is also a way to support the economy of the country, which today works exclusively for our defense.” – she added.
