The bell tower of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra was fully opened for tourists. Reconstruction was carried out on the upper tiers of the Great Lavra bell tower.
As the director of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra National Reserve, Maksym Ostapenko, told “Hromadskyi”, from now on everyone can climb to the top to see Kyiv from the highest point.
The third tier of the bell tower was accessible from October, but the top was not allowed for 30 years.
Lavra bell tower is the highest church building in Kyiv, its height is 96.5 meters. It is an octagonal 4-story tower. To climb to the top of the bell tower, you need to climb 374 steps.

The bell tower was built during 1731–1745. The bell tower was built in the 18th century on the site of an old wooden one, which was destroyed in 1718 by a great fire, according to the website of the National Reserve “Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra”.
In the 1930s, the belfry lost most of its bells, and during the Second World War it was seriously damaged by fire. The building was extensively restored in 1957-1963, and the last repair and restoration works were carried out there in 2010-2014.
In 2014, a giant bell weighing 7 tons was raised to the top tier of the belfry.
We will remind you that earlier we wrote that for the first time after the anathema, prayers for the repose of Ivan Mazepa will be held in the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra.
