After publicity about an unauthorized exhibition of turtles in Kamianets-Podilskyi, Khmelnytskyi region, law enforcement officers announced that they had seized the animals.

As the police of Khmelnytskyi region reported, they received an appeal from animal rights activists that an exhibition of reptiles is operating illegally in the city.

Law enforcement officers drew up an administrative protocol against the exhibition organizer under Part 3 of Article 88-1 of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses (Violation of the order of acquisition or sale of objects of animal or plant life, rules for keeping wild animals in captivity or in semi-free conditions).

For the period before the protocol is considered in court, the police officers decided to temporarily hand over 61 reptiles, including 52 turtles, to the Kamianets-Podilskyi ecological and naturalistic center for students.

The animals will stay there until the court decides their future fate“, the police say.

The court will determine the further fate of the animals

In turn, UAnimals noted that on the morning of January 26, their team went to the ecological and naturalistic center for student youth to check the conditions and find out whether turtles can be safely there.

“UP. Life” has contacted UAnimals for details regarding the results of the inspection and is awaiting a comment.

We will remind you that animal rights activists from Kamianets-Podilskyi sounded the alarm, saying that the animals from the traveling exhibition were in terrible conditions: they were kept in aquariums that were too small, and some of the turtles looked lifeless. In addition, animals were constantly used to take pictures with visitors.
