In India, a pigeon suspected of espionage was released

The Mumbai police released the spy pigeon after eight months in prison.

The bird was found in May of last year with two metal rings and a message that allegedly contained Chinese characters, writes The Guardian.

The pigeon was caught and began to be checked. Police officers suspected that he was involved in espionage, took him to their home, and then sent him to one of the veterinary clinics in Mumbai.

Later it became known that the pigeon was from Taiwan and took part in races on open water. Perhaps this is how he got to Indian soil.

With the permission of the police, he was handed over to the Bombay Animal Welfare Society, where he was later released.

The publication notes that this is not the first time that birds are suspected of espionage.

In 2016, police detained a pigeon after they found a note containing threats to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In 2020, the police released a Pakistani fishing pigeon, which was also believed to be a spy. He was suspected after he flew across the heavily militarized border between the nuclear powers.

It will be recalled that in Scotland they searched for a male Japanese macaque that escaped from the eco-park for four days.
