Underground schools are planned to be opened in Zaporizhzhia so that next school year children can receive education in a mixed format.

Ivan Fedorov, the head of the Zaporizhia Regional Military Administration, stated this in an interview for “Ukrinform”.

Fedorov cited the reluctance of officials to organize training in shelters as the reason why only 12 Zaporizhzhia schools study in a mixed format.

According to him, it is necessary to find a solution for obtaining a safe education on the territory of Zaporozhye.

“The task is simple: there are some schools, some shelters are ready, there are those that need to be done, to build underground schools. Why was Kharkiv able, but Zaporizhzhia was not?Fedorov said.

He said that about 50 schools are planned to be opened in the city. The number is not final – gradually the number of such educational institutions will increase.

“There is only one task: on September 1, all children must enter the mixed education system. Those who left will continue online.

We are now working on locations, there will be two or three of them. Why is this? Because no one knows how long the war will last. We were in Helsinki, we were in shelters – they are in perfect condition. There they are used as gymnasiums and training grounds“, said the senior official.

We will remind you that the first underground school is being built in Kharkiv. It will be able to be attended by 450 children, if training takes place in two shifts, then 900. Mayor Ihor Terekhov predicts that training will begin in March. Although he previously noted that the construction is planned to be finished before the new year.
