In Lviv, the conductor of “Ukrzaliznytsia” refused to start the boarding of women on the train, because he wanted to let the man into the car first.

The incident happened on the Lviv-Zaporizhia train. While waiting for the man, the conductor made the female passengers wait on the platform.

Only the military status forced the employee of “Ukrzaliznytsia” to change his “rules”.

“My attempts to resolve the situation peacefully (I reminded the conductor that the 21st century is outside, and that women are people too) the conductor did not respond. Only my arguments that I am an active military serviceman worked, and he eventually let us into the car.” – said Iryna Bobyk.

She called the conductor’s actions a manifestation of sexism.

“Of course, I understand that the situation is not the end of the world. But am I fighting so that in the rear I am made to feel like a subhuman to please magical thinking and ancient superstitions?” – asked the military woman.

Under the post, representatives of “Ukrzaliznytsia” apologized for their conductor and assured that the company “follows the principle of passenger equality.”

“We are not superstitious and take this case seriously and undertake to carefully consider this situation and take the necessary measures.” – says the apology.

In a comment for “UP. Life”, the press service of “Ukrzaliznytsia” assured that the company fulfilled its promises.

“The conductor was suspended from work. He was analyzed the situation and received additional training on passenger service.” – they informed.

According to the Ukrainian tradition, a man should enter the house first – this is supposed to bring good luck. This superstition found its embodiment among railway workers.

“There are conductors who believe that a man should enter the car first. Not a woman, but that the man should be the first. That is, if there are passengers on the platform – a man and a woman, then the man is the first to be asked to enter. Then it is considered that the trip will be successful and there will be no nuances on the way.” – told guide Kostyantyn Fedchenko in an interview for NV.
