The court in Yoshkar-Ola fined local blogger Andrey Filippov 1.8 million rubles for a video about the war in Ukraine. The blogger was found guilty of spreading so-called fakes about the Russian army based on political hatred. This is reported by OVD-Info.
The reason for initiating a criminal case against Phillipov was a video on his YouTube channel called “War of Russia and Ukraine: a view from the Ukrainian’s perspective”. In it, the blogger analyzes the news related to the full-scale Russian invasion and points out discrepancies in the messages of the Ministry of Defense of Russia. In his video, Phillipov urged to be attentive to information about the war and to take it from different sources.
The case against the blogger was initiated back in 2022. He spent almost an hour in the pre-trial detention center. Fillipov claims that he was not allowed to visit his relatives there and was not allowed to call them.
- The Russian authorities call any information about the war in Ukraine different from the version of the Ministry of Defense of Russia “fakes”. An article about “fakes” about the Russian army was added to the Criminal Code of Russia shortly after its invasion of Ukraine. The punishment for it can be up to 10 years of imprisonment or a fine of up to five million rubles.
