A court in Moscow arrested in absentia a citizen of Ukraine, Iryna Zemlyana, who poured beet juice on the Russian ambassador to Poland, Sergei Andreev, on May 9, 2022. A criminal case has been initiated against her under the article of assault on a person receiving international protection.

As “Mediazona” writes, the decision to arrest in absentia was made on March 4, but it was not known about it. Earlier, Zemlyana was declared wanted (in the documents of the Russian authorities, her last name is indicated as Zemlyana).

The publication noticed that the fatherhood of Zemlyana was not indicated either in the search card, or in the records of Rosfinmonitoring, which banned her money transfers, or in the court decision. The search card used a photo of a Ukrainian woman from a rally in Warsaw.

The editors assume that the investigation and the court did not even begin to find out the full name of the suspect and establish her identity.

Earth poured over the Russian ambassador to Warsaw during his participation in the wreath-laying ceremony at the cemetery where Red Army soldiers are buried. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia expressed a protest to Poland. She herself said that she accidentally doused the Russian diplomat: it was confirmed that the participants of the action planned to douse only themselves.

The activist, who works at a Ukrainian NGO as a journalist safety trainer, later reported that she was forced to leave Warsaw, where she lived, because of threats to her life. She said that her personal data was posted on the Internet, she received threatening messages and calls.
