A criminal case has been initiated against journalist Ekaterina Fomina for spreading so-called fakes about the Russian army. The day before, this information appeared in a number of Telegram channels, but Fomina herself stated that no one had informed her about the initiation of the case. Now the information has been confirmed by the state news agency TASS.

It is reported that the case is related to the investigation of Ekaterina Fomina, which was published in August 2022 in the publication “Vazhnye istorii”. In it, the Russian military Daniil Frolkin, who participated in the invasion of Ukraine, confessed to killing civilians and looting in the Kyiv region. Frolkin also named the commanders who gave orders to shoot civilians.

After the release of the material, the soldier, who was in Russia, was arrested, and then sentenced by a Russian court to 5.5 years of conditional imprisonment – he was found guilty of “spreading knowingly false information about the Russian army for self-interest.”

  • Ekaterina Fomina is a graduate of the Faculty of Journalism of Moscow State University, she worked at Novaya Gazeta for 9 years, and since 2020 she has been working with the publication Vazhnye istorii. In 2021, the Russian authorities declared this mass media a “foreign agent”, and a year later – an “undesirable organization”, for cooperation with which citizens face long prison terms. After that, Fomina left Russia.
