In 2024, Ukraine will need $3.1 billion in humanitarian aid from the United Nations

The UN plans to allocate 3.1 billion dollars for the humanitarian needs of Ukraine in 2024. This amount was named at a meeting of the UN Security Council by the representative of the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, Edem Vosornu. The annual plan for humanitarian support of Ukraine will be presented in Geneva next Monday, January 15.

“As long as the war in Ukraine continues, and humanitarian needs are growing, financial support should not weaken,” said Vorson.

Her colleague is Jens Lerke stated, that more than 14.6 million residents of Ukraine will need humanitarian support next year — that’s 40% of the country’s population. In addition, about 2.3 million Ukrainian refugees in different countries of the world will need help. Their needs are also included in the annual plan. About four million Ukrainians, including about a million children, were forced to leave their homes and become refugees within their own country. Lerke estimates the total number of refugees at 6.3 million.

Edem Vosornu reported that the situation of the residents of Ukrainian regions occupied by Russia causes serious concern. According to her, access there for humanitarian missions and UN structures is significantly more difficult. “It is particularly worrying that it concerns hundreds of thousands of people living in the occupied territories in the immediate vicinity of the front line, where the greatest need is,” she emphasized.
