A hacker group linked to the Russian Federation tried to attack an energy facility

The hacker group ART 28 tried to attack the object of critical energy infrastructure of Ukraine.

The government’s computer emergency response team CERT-UA, which recorded and investigated a targeted cyber attack by the ART28 group on an energy facility.

As noted in the State Intelligence Service, the attackers planned to implement the plan by distributing an e-mail message with a fake sender’s address and a link to a zip archive, the opening of which could eventually give hackers access to the organization’s systems and its data.

The cyber attack was carried out using legitimate services (in particular, Mockbin) and the functionality of regular programs.

Hacker group ART28 (also known as Pawn Storm, Fancy Bear, BlueDelta) is linked by a number of researchers to the special services of Russia. ART28 often directs its efforts against Ukraine.

In particular, the ART28 attack in July was aimed at stealing the data of Ukrainians for logging into postal services.
