A powerful hurricane passed through Sochi on Sunday night. One person died – a tree fell on a passerby, he died on the spot. In total, more than 80 trees were felled by the wind.
11.8 thousand local residents were left without electricity as a result of damage to the power grids. The roofs of at least 11 houses were damaged. According to the mayor of the city, Alexey Kopaigorodsky, wind gusts reach 27-28 meters per second. The height of the waves on the coast may exceed four meters.
At Sochi airport, at least 18 flights have been delayed due to weather conditions. People spend several hours at airports and in airplanes waiting for permission to take off. The Shot Telegram channel reports that at least three people were injured due to flight delays: two women and a child needed medical attention due to poor ventilation on board Sochi — Moscow. An ambulance was called to the plane standing at the airport, and the victims were hospitalized.
A storm warning has been issued in Sochi and the surrounding area until the end of Monday. The mayor called on citizens not to leave their homes and not expose themselves to danger.
