The Krasnodar Regional Court sentenced the local resident to six years in a strict regime colony and another year of restriction of freedom on the charge of preparation for high treason. The name of the convicted person is unknown, his case was considered in private.

According to the verdict, the convicted “in June 2023 made a decision to leave Ukraine to join the ranks of the armed forces of the specified state.” At the station, he was detained by FSB officers who found a Ukrainian passport and an oath in the name of the country’s president in his belongings. There is no independent confirmation of these data.

According to the publication “Cold”, in 2023, more criminal cases related to treason were initiated in Russia than in the previous 20 years. The real number of such cases may be higher, since the FSB does not report on all such cases.

According to open data, from January to July 2023, more than 80 cases of state change were initiated. Last year there were 20 such cases.
