The court in Novosibirsk fined local resident Iryna Bocharova 15,000 rubles for tearing down a poster with “thanks to the heroes of the SVO”. OVD-Info reports this with reference to lawyer Olga Nechaeva.
Bocharova was found guilty under the administrative article on discrediting the army. “They imposed a fine below the minimum limit due to the fact that I have two small children, one of whom is disabled,” said a resident of Novosibirsk.
The protocol against Bocharova was drawn up after she tore a poster in support of the war in Ukraine from the wall at the Gorno-Altaysk airport and threw it in the trash. She explained her action by the fact that she did not want her child to see propaganda.
- By October 2023, the number of convictions under the article about “fakes” about the Russian army in 2023 increased by a third, and the number of cases of treason – almost four times compared to the same period in 2022. In 2023, the courts for the first time began to set real deadlines in cases of “discrediting” the Russian army.
- Articles about so-called fakes and the discrediting of the army appeared in the codes of Russia shortly after its invasion of Ukraine. Russian courts recognize as discrediting the message about the war in Ukraine, which Moscow calls a “special operation”, and any information different from the version of the Ministry of Defense of Russia is fake.
