The court in Rostov-on-Don sentenced Yevgeny Nikiforov, a resident of the Volgograd region, to six and a half years of strict regime prison in the case of high treason. According to the FSB, he allegedly planned to join the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This is reported by TASS.

The FSB reported on the detention of a person named Yevgeny Nikiforov in December 2022. According to the department, he came from the Volgograd region to Rostov region to cross the Russian-Ukrainian border and join the Armed Forces. The FSB employees allegedly found in him an application form, an application for a contract with the Armed Forces of Ukraine, military field clothing and mobile phones.

He was accused of trying to go to Ukraine to fight against the Russian army. At the same time, the Belgorod Regional Court sentenced a native of Salekhard to three years in the colony, who was accused of trying to go to Ukraine and fight on the side of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
In January, the Bryansk regional court sentenced 29-year-old local resident Ilya Kutsev to seven years of imprisonment in a high-security colony. According to the verdict, Kutsev was going to leave Russia for Ukraine to fight there on the side of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Kutsev himself did not admit guilt.
Earlier, Krasnoyarsk resident Sergey Ulukshonov was sentenced to 4 years and 8 months, and Volgograd resident Maksym Dmytryenko was sentenced to four years in prison. 21-year-old Saveliy Frolov, detained at the Verkhniy Lars border crossing on the border with Georgia, is in pretrial detention center under investigation under the same article: he allegedly wrote about his desire to fight for Ukraine on a social network; Frolov himself calls his remark humorous.
