A third of complaints to the language ombudsman concern sites whose pages are not in Ukrainian

The Secretariat of the Language Ombudsman received 1,650 complaints about non-compliance with language legislation. A third of them relate to the lack of a start page in the Ukrainian language on the sites, Taras Kremin, Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language, said on the air of the telethon on June 18. “These are online stores, websites of individual media. We work on all of them and bring them to the norms of the law. We have facts of imposing sanctions in the form of warnings or fines. This is absolutely effective,” Kremin explained. The language ombudsman reminded that from July 16, 2022, the rule that provides for the use of the state language on the Internet and interfaces of computer programs installed on goods came into effect. Taras Kremin “When you go to the Internet, the start page of all Ukrainian sites must be in Ukrainian. Those who do not have this, this is a violation of language legislation, and we must signal to our Secretariat. We will take appropriate response measures,” said Kremin.
