Actions in memory of Boris Nemtsov are held in many countries of the world

On Tuesday, many countries around the world are holding actions in memory of Russian opposition politician Boris Nemtsov. He was killed nine years ago, on February 27, 2015, by shots in the back on the Bolshoi Moskvoretsky Bridge in Moscow, directly opposite the Kremlin. The investigation found four perpetrators of the crime, but nothing is known about the customers.

Many actions in memory of Nemtsov abroad were held at Russian embassies and consulates. Often there are spontaneous memorials to the memory of the second dead opposition politician — Alexei Navalny. Activists unite memorials to Navalny and Nemtsov and speak out in support of all civil activists in Russia, whose public position puts their freedom and life at risk.

At the Russian embassy in Prague, opposite the improvised memorial to Alexei Navalny, activists laid out the inscription “Fight” made of candles. As the correspondent of Radio Svoboda reported from the scene, representatives of the Vesna movement and other non-conformists spoke at the rally in the format of an open microphone. They talked about the upcoming elections and the importance of letters to political prisoners. Images with portraits of killed and imprisoned oppositionists were projected onto the embassy wall.

Dozens of people gathered at the Russian embassy in Riga. “We grieve for all those who died fighting for freedom. We remember those who are now in prison,” the organizers of the rally reminded.

The President of Latvia, Edgar Rynkevich, wrote on social networks: “Nine years ago, an outstanding Russian politician, Boris Nemtsov, was killed in Moscow. He warned the whole world about the true nature of Putin’s regime. Few people listened to him then – now we are blathering about the consequences.”

The campaign also takes place at the embassy in Vilnius. A banner with the text “Putin killed Navalny” is also posted on the fence.

Actions commemorating the politician are held in many other cities.

On the ninth anniversary of Nemtsov’s death, the US Embassy in Russia issued a statement calling the politician “one of the most enduring examples of courage.” The agency noted that it also pays tribute to all Russians who, despite the repression, continue to fight for a better future for their country, and once again called on the Russian government to fulfill its constitutional obligations to the people and protect their rights, including the right to freedom of speech , peaceful assemblies and associations. The US Ambassador to Moscow, Lynn Tracy, took part in the laying of flowers at the place of Nemtsov’s murder on the Bolshoi Moskvoretsky Bridge.
