40-year-old activist Anatoly Berezykov died in a special detention center in Rostov-on-Don. This was reported by his lawyer Irina Hak, who suspects that her client will die as a result of torture. This is reported by OVD-Info.
Hak said that the day before, she recorded Berezykov’s marks from a stun gun. He complained that he was threatened with murder. On June 14, she came to the special reception and saw the medical car where Anatoly Berezykov’s body was being taken.
According to the lawyer, Berezykov’s house was inspected on May 10. In fact, it was a search, but no documents were presented. On that day, as Berezykov told the lawyer, his ribs were broken.
On May 21, Berezikov was not allowed to leave the special detention center, but was again sent under administrative arrest under the article of petty hooliganism. He told the lawyer that before the court the officers of the police department No. 4 took him outside the city, where they questioned him with electric shocks and demanded that he give up his lawyer. On May 31, Berezykov was placed in a special detention center for the third time – for 15 days on charges of petty hooliganism.
Presumably, the reason for the prosecution was that Berezykov was pasting leaflets of the Ukrainian project “I want to live” in the city, accepting appeals from Russian servicemen for surrender.
Hak emphasized that at all meetings her client talked about pressure, violence and threats from law enforcement officers to send him to war.
All the petitions of the lawyer and Berezykov’s complaint were rejected by the federal judge of the Lenin District Court of Rostov-on-Don Evangelevskaya (name not given – Ed.).
- In 2022, the Krasnodar region entered the top 10 regions in terms of the number of police torture cases per hour. In the Rostov region, 10 convictions were handed down in 10 cases under the article about the abuse of power by force.
