Activist Iryna Danylovych could have suffered a stroke in the colonies

Crimean anti-war activist Iryna Danylovich, sentenced to seven years on the charge of making an explosive device, could have suffered a stroke in the colony. Independent doctors affiliated with the human rights organization Physicians for Human Rights came to this conclusion. conducted an examination of the prisoner’s medical card, medical history and studies.

According to the conclusions of an otolaryngologist and a neurologist, Danylovych not only suffered acute otitis, but also has neurological disorders and brain damage. This was reported by the human rights organization ZMINA, which organized an independent examination.

In April 2023, doctors from Simferopol, where Danylovych was in a pre-trial detention center, diagnosed her with “acute otitis” and acquired hearing loss as a result. However, according to the conclusions of the otolaryngologist, no subsequent re-examination was conducted to assess the effectiveness of the treatment. The neurologist indicated that, in addition to otitis, Danylovych complained of dizziness, constant headaches, and repeatedly lost consciousness during trips to court hearings. These could be symptoms of a stroke, but Danylovych’s examination, according to the doctor, was insufficient.

Danylovych herself stated that for four months she could not get medical help in the pre-trial detention center, despite severe pain. Help was provided only after she announced a dry hunger strike. As a result, the activist became deaf in her left ear.

• Irina Danylovich lived in the annexed Crimea, worked as a nurse and was a civilian journalist. She defended the interests of medical workers on the peninsula and wrote a lot about violations of their rights. In June, she was included by the Ministry of Justice in the list of media “foreign agents”.
• At the end of April, FSB officers detained Danylovych and searched her home, finding 200 grams of explosives in a half-folded glasses case. Danylovych herself claims that explosives were thrown at her during the search, when she refused to admit to treason and cooperation with the Security Service of Ukraine. The court in Feodosia sentenced her to seven years in a colony.
