Rzhev journalist Ekaterina Duntsova, who was rejected by the CEC for nomination to the post of President of Russia, called on Boris Nadezhdin to help the candidate from the “Grazhdanskaya Initiative” party to collect signatures for registration.
Duntsova motivated her support by the fact that, in the event of registration, Nadezhdin would be the only candidate with a peaceful agenda and a chance for independent monitoring of the vote.
The CEC allowed 11 candidates to run for the post of President of Russia, four more were rejected. Eight candidates are nominated by parties, three more, including President Vladimir Putin, who has been in office for four terms, are self-nominated.
Three candidates – Leonid Slutsky (LDPR), Vladyslav Davankov (“New People”) and Nikolay Kharitonov (CPRF) – already have the status of registered, as their parties are represented in the State Duma. Others need to collect signatures for registration: at least 300,000 for self-nominated candidates and at least 100,000 for party candidates.
Voting in the presidential elections of Russia will take place from March 15 to 17, 2024.
