Almost 200 foreign medicines may disappear from pharmacies and hospitals

196 foreign medicines may become unavailable to Russians. The edition “Kholod” writes about this, having studied the letter of the Ministry of Health to the medical institutions under its jurisdiction. It lists drugs that will no longer be manufactured in Russia or supplied to the country.
The list included some antibiotics, drugs for the treatment of HIV infection, cancer, epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease, and mental illnesses. In addition, the Ministry of Health’s letter lists over-the-counter drugs that are popular among Russian buyers, such as ACC (for cough), Panadol (analgesic and antipyretic), No-shpa (anti-spasm), Salbutamol (inhalation agent against asthma). It also includes some imported children’s vaccines against measles, diphtheria, whooping cough, rubella and other infections.
Some of the medicines listed in the letter of the Ministry of Health are outdated. For others, there are domestic analogues. However, both doctors and patients often complain that Russian analogues are less effective or cause unwanted side effects.
The Ministry of Health stated in its letter that the information about the cessation of supplies came from drug manufacturers. However, the doctors and pharmacists with whom the “Cold” publication spoke do not rule out that the Ministry of Health itself is taking a course on lobbying domestic pharmaceutical companies. They fear that the disappearance of familiar drugs may lead to an increase in the illegal import of drugs from abroad and the emergence of a market for counterfeit products.
