The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Serbia refused to extend the residence permit of Vladimir Volokhonsky, an oppositionist from Russia, statedthat he represents a security threat to the country. Volokhonsky posted the announcement on his social networks.

The document states that the police received information about a possible threat from the Serbian border service in response to a request to extend a residence permit based on employment. The document does not explain the reasons for such a decision.

Volokhonskyi is the son of the Soviet dissident Lev Volokhonskyi, a former member of the political council of the Solidarity movement in St. Petersburg, a municipal deputy.

He left Russia in early March 2022 after a search of his home. In April, at a meeting of the municipal council, in which he participated remotely from abroad, the deputy spoke out against the war in Ukraine, declaring that a fascist dictatorship regime had developed in Russia.

In January, Volokhonsky told the Euronews channel that he receives threats from Russians and Serbs. On the door of the apartment in Belgrade, where he is registered, he was painted with the letter Z, symbolizing support for the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
