Andrey Kondrashov, the first deputy general director of VGTRK, has been appointed as the new general director of the Russian state news agency TASS. The corresponding order was signed by the Prime Minister of Russia, Mikhail Myshustin.
Kondrashov will replace Sergey Mykhaylov in this post, who was relieved of his duties “at his own request”. Mikhailov headed TASS since 2012. He did not say the reasons for his decision.
50-year-old Andrey Kondrashov is a Russian journalist and TV presenter – he has been working at VGTRK since 1992. He was VGTRK’s own correspondent for Central Asia, covered the work of the State Duma, was a member of the Kremlin pool, hosted the “Vesty” and “Vesty Nedeli” programs. In the position of deputy general director, he supervised the information block of the VGTRK holding.
In 2018, Kondrashov was the press secretary of Vladimir Putin’s election headquarters.
He is the author of the film “Crimea. The Way to the Family”, dedicated to Russia’s annexation of the Ukrainian peninsula in 2014. A significant part of the film is an interview with President Vladimir Putin about his personal involvement in the March 2014 events in Crimea. Kondrashov also made a biographical film about the president “Putin”.
In June, the European Union included Kondrashov in the 11th package of European Union sanctions in response to Russia’s war against Ukraine.
