Athletes from Russia and Belarus will be admitted to triathlon competitions
The International Triathlon Union decided to admit athletes from Russia and Belarus to the competition. He writes about it with a link to the official website of the organization.
“In principle, the International Triathlon Union supports the development of a path for independent neutral individual athletes and officials with Russian and Belarusian passports to participate in our sports,” the message says.
The organization notes that it took such a decision based on the IOC’s recommendation to return athletes with Russian and Belarusian passports to international competitions.
As noted, the International Triathlon Union, in consultation with the IOC and the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations, will work on the development of the necessary independent verification processes to allow and plan the return of Russians and Belarusians to competitions.
“The Executive Council reaffirms its solidarity with Ukraine before the ongoing war with Russia, and that the independence of any athlete or official was an absolute condition for their return to the World Triathlon competitions,” the organization added.
Sanctions against Russian and Belarusian athletes were introduced in early March 2022 in accordance with the recommendations of the IOC and the principles of the Olympic Charter to “guarantee the safety of all athletes participating in triathlon competitions.”
The Minister of the Interior of the Federal Republic of Germany threatened to prevent Russian athletes from competing.
