The court in Moscow fined sociologist and political scientist Borys Kagarlytsky, who is in pre-trial detention center, 40,000 rubles under an administrative article on violation of the rules of activity of a “foreign agent”. This is reported by RBC with reference to the press service of the court.

According to this article, so-called foreign agents are prohibited from publishing materials on the Internet and mass media without indicating the status assigned by the Ministry of Justice. Publications must be accompanied by a special stamp. It is not specified what exactly Kagarlytskyi’s record was the reason for the fine.

Sociologist and political scientist Borys Kagarlytskyi is in a pre-trial detention center on a case of justifying terrorism. According to the FSB, he called for terrorism on the Internet. Kagarlitskyi’s lawyer, Sergey Erokhov, reported that the political scientist’s post about the explosion on the bridge in Crimea annexed by Russia, which occurred in October last year, was the reason for the criminal case. In his telegram channel, published on October 8, Kagarlytskyi stated that from a “military point of view” the meaning of the explosion is clear: “there will be problems with supplies.”

  • 64-year-old Boris Kagarlytsky is a sociologist, political scientist, director of the Institute of Globalization and Social Movements, a well-known left-wing publicist, and a member of the dissident movement in the USSR. In 2022, he was included in the list of so-called foreign agents by the Ministry of Justice. Later, Rosfinmonitoring added Kagarlitsky to the register of extremists and terrorists.
