The Court of Appeal upheld the sentences of Navalny and Kholodny

The first appellate court upheld the sentences of opposition politician Alexei Navalny and former technical director of the Navalny LIVE channel Daniel Kholodny.

In August, the Moscow City Court found Navalny guilty of creating an extremist community, calling for extremism and his financing, and sentenced the oppositionist to 19 years in a special regime colony. It presupposes the most serious degree of isolation: a convicted person is allowed only two short and one long meeting, one parcel and one parcel per hour.

Kholodny, in turn, was given eight years in a general regime colony on charges of participating in the activities of an extremist community and financing extremism.

The publication “Mediazon” notes that a few days before the appeals court, Alexei Navalny, who is currently in correctional colony No. 6 of the Vladimir region, was transferred to a cell of a penal institution for the twentieth time.

Unlike him, Daniel Kholodny was able to take part in the meeting. In his last words before passing the decision, he literally said the following: “I am here now for one reason – I was not afraid of your investigation and trial. I refused to betray my friends and give the necessary testimony to the investigation. That’s why you gave me 8 years and took everything away from me … For the sake of a better future, I am ready to pay this price so that my children do not have to do this. This is my civic duty. But one day you and I, dear judges and prosecutors, will change places, so I have only one question for you: is there do you have convictions for which you would be willing to pay the price that I, thousands of political prisoners and their families are now paying? I think not… When I was deported from Moscow, my fellow prisoner said the following words to me in parting: don’t believe , don’t be afraid, don’t ask. You know, I think this is a very good life motto. That’s why I want to tell you: I don’t believe you, I’m not afraid of you, and I’m not asking you for anything.”
