The body of politician Alexei Navalny is in the morgue of the Salekhard District Clinical Hospital, Novaya Gazeta — Evropa reports with reference to its sources in the city. An employee of the local ambulance told reporters that a police guard was posted at the morgue. Also, according to the doctor, colleagues found bruises characteristic of seizures on Navalny’s body.

“Such injuries appear from convulsions,” the publication quotes the words of a medical worker.

In addition, the medical worker reported that on Navalny’s chest, his colleagues found characteristic traces of indirect heart massage. “That is, they still asked to resuscitate him, and he died, most likely, from a cardiac arrest. But why did this stop happen, so far no one is saying anything,” the source concluded.

The autopsy, according to “New Europe”, has not yet been conducted. Presumably, local doctors are waiting for the arrival of specialists from Moscow. Until the results of the forensic medical expertise are obtained, the body of the deceased cannot be handed over to relatives. If some biomaterials will be sent to the capital for research, this may delay the process for at least another week, the publication believes.

Earlier it was reported that Alexei Navalny’s mother Lyudmila and his lawyer went to the Salehard morgue, but it turned out to be closed, and they were told by phone that Navalny’s body was not there. Navalny’s press secretary Kira Yarmysh said that the Investigative Committee stated that the cause of death has not yet been established, and the body will not be handed over to the relatives while the investigation is underway, although before that, according to her, the lawyers were informed that “the investigation is over, the crime is detected”.

  • Russian authorities reported on the sudden death of Navalny in the colony on February 16. Then the leaders of Western countries and other Western politicians commented on the messages. Many of them, in addition to expressing condolences, also placed responsibility for the death of the oppositionist on the Russian authorities and President Vladimir Putin himself, emphasizing that Navalny was first poisoned allegedly on the orders of the Russian authorities, and then, after returning to Russia, was thrown behind bars for his opposition activities. The countries of the “Group of Seven” called on Moscow to thoroughly investigate and make public the circumstances of the politician’s death.
