The “Crew 8” mission, consisting of three Americans and one Russian, successfully launched to the International Space Station (ISS).

The mission included medic Michael Barratt, who has already made two flights into space, and newcomers: flight commander Matthew Dominique, engineer Janet Epps, and former military aviation engineer Alexander Grebyonkin.

The mission should arrive at the ISS on the morning of Tuesday, March 5, and dock with the orbital laboratory at an altitude of about 420 kilometers above the Earth. The team will work at the station until the end of August 2024 and will conduct about 250 experiments.

“Crew 8” is the eighth mission that NASA has sent to the ISS since 2020 on Elon Musk’s SpaceX rockets. Crew 7 is expected to return to Earth a week after the replacements arrive.

About the size of a football field, the ISS is the largest object built by mankind in space, and the most expensive in its history. It has been in operation since November 1998. 14 countries participate in the operation of the station: Russia, the USA, Canada, Japan and ten European states. There are currently seven passengers on board the ISS: Crew 7 and three members of the Soyuz MS-24 mission.
