Philosopher-innocent agent Yuliya Sineokuya was awarded the medal of the member of the Russian Academy of Sciences

The Russian Academy of Sciences left a commemorative medal for its corresponding member, philosopher Yuliya Sineokuya. This was what the deputy of the State Duma, Roman Teryushkov, sought. On Wednesday, he published on his Telegram page a letter from the President of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Gennady Krasnikov. In response to the deputy’s request, Krasnikov said that Sineokaya was excluded from the list of awardees.

In Krasnikov’s letter, his decision to leave the Blue Medal is based on the fact that the scientist was assigned the status of a so-called foreign agent and the need to “take into account the current situation.”

Roman Teryushkov is a former activist of the “Young Guard of United Russia” movement, he is a member of the State Duma Committee on Physical Education. On his page, the deputy noted that in the future he will seek to deprive Yulia Sineoka of the payments due to her as a member of the Academy of Sciences, as well as the exclusion from the Russian Academy of Sciences of all scientists who have received the status of “foreign agent” in Russia.

Yulia Sineokaya is a doctor of philosophy, professor and corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Specialist in German philosophy, history of European and Russian philosophy of the second half of the 19th and 20th centuries. After the start of Russia’s full-scale military invasion of Ukraine, she condemned the war and moved to Paris, where she conducts research at the Sorbonne-Pantheon University. In Paris, she became one of the founders of the Independent Institute of Philosophy, which united many humanitarian researchers who left Russia due to disagreement with the Kremlin’s policy. In February, the Ministry of Justice entered the “foreign agents” register.

Teryushkov also reported that next week the relevant committees of the State Duma will discuss the proposal of its chairman Vyacheslav Volodin to prohibit the payment of royalties and royalties to “foreign agents”.

• The Russian authorities can declare anyone who is under “foreign influence” a foreign agent, the definition of which is very vague in the law. Now there are more than 570 “foreign agents” in the register: individuals, mass media, NGOs and companies.
• The status of foreign agent obliges, among other things, to report quarterly on the movement of funds on personal accounts and to mark all public messages. Errors in the report or lack of marking are punishable up to imprisonment.
• From the end of 2022, “foreign agents” are prohibited from teaching in state institutions, organizing public events, serving in the army under contract, and being members of election commissions.
