Danylovych, a former nurse convicted in Crimea, announced a dry hunger strike

Nurse and citizen journalist Irina Danylovich, sentenced by a Russian court in the annexed Crimea to seven years of imprisonment on charges of manufacturing an explosive device, announced a dry hunger strike. She claims that she is not provided with medical care in the pre-trial detention center. This is reported by Krym.Realii.

Danylovych published a statement in which she announced that she was going to not eat or drink until she was provided with “normal medical treatment, or until she dies.” She claims that she suffered a microstroke in the pre-trial detention center, and also has hearing problems. According to Danylovych, she cannot get medical help for four months.

“She complains very much about the terrible headaches that have haunted her during the last five months of her detention in the pre-trial detention center… For the past almost five months, she has not been able to reach the doctors of the pre-trial detention center with a request for help… In fact, for five months, she has been treated the most terrible torture, torture with pain,” Bronyslav Danylovych, the prisoner’s father, told journalists.

Danylovych worked as a nurse and participated in the medical trade union movement. After the local organization “Alliance of Doctors” in Feodosia demanded the promised “covid” payments, Iryna and her colleagues were fired. Then she continued to cover the problems of Crimean healthcare as a citizen journalist.

The journalist was detained in April 2022. The FSB accused Iryna Danylovych of making an explosive device with medical needles. Danylovych was sentenced in December 2022 under the article “Illegal purchase, transfer, sale, storage, transportation, shipment or carrying of explosive substances or explosive devices”. She denies her guilt. Speaking in court with the last word, the journalist noted that she is not the first to whom the FSB of Russia applies “dirty methods of falsification”.
