Khabarovsk Territory became the most protest region of Russia in 2022

According to Roskomnadzor, Khabarovsk Krai became the most protest region of Russia in 2022. In it, 119 protest actions were counted from the beginning of March to the end of June, according to the data leaked by the department, which “Vazhnye istorii” got acquainted with.

The main topics of discontent among the residents of the region: the criminal prosecution of the former governor of the region, Sergei Furgal, the war in Ukraine, and the politics of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Back in 2019, the rating of the head of state in Khabarovsk Krai turned out to be the lowest in Russia. According to the July 2020 Levada Center poll, 45% of Russians supported the protests in support of Sergei Furgal.

Second place after Khabarovsk Krai in terms of protest activity is occupied by St. Petersburg, third place is shared by Moscow and Bashkortostan. “Important Histories” note that based on the leaked data, it is possible to conclude that the main reasons for the protests in Russia were the war in Ukraine, the actions of the authorities and political prisoners, as well as environmental and infrastructure problems. It is also known that 90% of the actions took place in regional centers. Almost half of the protests in the country are individual pickets.

Journalists of “Vazhnyh istory” drew their conclusions on the basis of the largest data leak of a subsidiary structure of Roskomnadzor — the Main Radio Frequency Center (GRCHC).

• Sergei Furgal, the governor of the Khabarovsk Territory elected in 2018, was detained on July 9, 2020 and taken to Moscow. After that, mass actions in his support took place in Khabarovsk and other regions of Russia for several months. The participants of the rallies demanded consideration of the case in Khabarovsk, and also called for the resignation of the current regional and federal authorities. On February 10, Furgal was sentenced to 22 years in a high-security colony in the case of organizing two private murders of businessmen in 2004-2005 and an attempt on his life.
• According to “OVD-Info” estimates, during the full-scale war, the police detained anti-war activists almost 20,000 times in 78 regions of Russia. Criminal cases were opened against at least 447 people for demonstrating an anti-war position, 128 of them are in prison. According to the new article about the discrediting of the Russian government and the army, almost six thousand cases were opened.
