State Duma deputies from the “United Russia” party, Sergey Sokol and Igor Kastyukevich, submitted applications for the early termination of their powers. This is stated on the website of the State Duma.
Sokol, who first received the mandate of a State Duma deputy in March 2020, said that he would “live and work” in Khakassia. According to the results of the last elections, he was elected to the regional parliament. Sokol also applied for the post of governor of Khakassia, but withdrew from the elections due to health issues. As a result, they were defeated by the acting governor of the CPRF, Valentin Konovalov.
Sokol also heads the Khakass branch of United Russia. According to the deputy, recently he is often asked, “Is it true that there is a chance to start changing life in the republic for the better?”. The secretary of United Russia, which has ruled the country for almost 20 years, answers: “Truth.”
Kastyukevich, who became a member of the State Duma in 2021 on the United Russia list, heads the party’s branch in the occupied part of the Kherson region. According to the results of the last elections, he also received a mandate in the local Duma and declared that he would work there.
Both Sokol and Kastyukevich are included in the sanctions lists of a number of countries due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
