Dmitry Muratov’s speech in Bonn was interrupted by an air raid signal

At the media forum in Bonn, which is held under the patronage of “German Wave”, on Tuesday, during the speech of the Russian journalist, winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, Dmitry Muratov, an air raid signal sounded in the hall.

As Deutsche Welle itself writes, the signal was heard not very loudly, but clearly and was apparently recorded on a smartphone. A video appeared on social networks. The sound interrupted Muratov’s speech at the Global Media Forum for about a minute.

It follows from the publications on social networks that this was an action by participants of the forum from Ukraine; thus, they sought to remind about the incessant Russian missile attacks on Ukrainian cities, writes DW.

The UNIAN agency claims that after Muratov’s speech, journalists also shouted “Glory to Ukraine!”.

Even before the opening of the media forum, “German Wave” reported that Muratov’s participation in it caused some critical comments from the Ukrainian side in social networks. “We see that Ukrainians don’t want to talk to Russians anymore – and vice versa,” DW General Director Peter Limburg stated and expressed his regret.

In his speech, Dmitry Muratov repeated the words he uttered at a recent meeting of the Russian opposition in Brussels that Ukraine and Russia will never be together again because of the Russian military invasion of Ukrainian territory, and that “Russia is no longer Europe.” Most of his speech was devoted to the consequences of the war.

Among other things, Dmitry Muratov called for help to young Russians who left the country. “They don’t want to kill, and they don’t want to be killed… I think it is very important to preserve this generation for all of us, and not only for Russia. They need to be helped, they can be entered in the Red Book, and they will not be cut off by the bank cards,” the journalist said.

Deutsche Welle notes that in Bonn, Muratov decided to speak to his colleagues not so much as the co-founder and editor-in-chief of Novaya Gazeta, which was closed by the Russian authorities, but in his second capacity – a human rights defender. He spoke, in particular, about the fate of Russian political prisoners and again called for help to “stop the torture of Alexei Navalny”, mentioned the case of municipal deputy Alexei Horynov, who received seven years in prison after he declared his opposition to the war in Ukraine. Muratov also expressed his support for the American journalist Evan Hershkovich arrested in Russia, whom the Russian authorities accuse of espionage.
