Due to dissatisfaction with the concert in support of the war, they were forced to leave the university

Students of the Yaroslavl Theater Institute, dissatisfied with the obligation to perform at a concert in support of the war, were forced to leave the university. The students told the telegram channel “Ostrozhno, novosti” about this.

According to the Telegram channel, the administration of the institute put the students in front of the fact: they need to perform at a concert on the anniversary of the full-scale invasion of Russia into Ukraine. Four students expressed their dissatisfaction, although they did not refuse to speak, notes the interlocutor of the Telegram channel.

“Ostrozhno, novosti” published an audio recording, as it is claimed, of a conversation between university rector Sergei Kutsenko and students. On it, Kutsenko says that he also has the right to refuse to work with dissatisfied students. “Well, I don’t like you! Well, you’re unfit for the profession, that’s all!” – declares the rector. According to him, no one will check the word “professionally unsuitable”, because everyone has their own taste, “and somewhere in another university you will like me, but I don’t like you here.” Kutsenko repeats several times that he will get nothing for such a position.

As a result, the students transferred to a university in another city. Those who reposted their farewell posts with an explanation of the situation, Kutsenko and his wife, who works as a course master, continue to “drown”, said the interlocutor of the Telegram channel. They declare that they “don’t want to work with traitors,” he clarified.

  • Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022. After that, Russian universities began to be persecuted for their anti-war stance. St. Petersburg Pediatric Medical University “reviewed the personal affairs” of employees who signed anti-war letters. At least two associate professors were fired from HSE because of their anti-war posts on social networks.
  • In June, State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin advised teachers opposing the war in Ukraine to “get up and leave.” In October, the assistant to the President of Russia, Vladimir Medinsky, called the students (and in the original version, the teachers) of the Faculty of Journalism of Moscow State University “animals” because of their liberal views.
