FIBA did not allow the national teams of the Russian Federation and Belarus to participate in the selection for EuroBasket-2025
FIBA did not allow the Russian and Belarusian national teams to pre-qualify for EuroBasket 2025, writes with reference to the message of the Basketball Federation of Ukraine.
“The FIBA-Europe Executive Committee in an official letter of the Basketball Federation of Ukraine reported that a unanimous decision was made not to allow the Russian and Belarusian national teams to participate in the pre-qualification of EuroBasket-2025, the matches of which will be held in July-August 2023”, – the message says.
Guided by the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the FIBA Executive Committee last week decided not to allow the relevant teams to the pre-qualification tournament.
Thus, according to the FBU, the Russian and Belarusian national teams will not be able to play at the European Championship in 2025.
Earlier, the FIBA Executive Committee decided not to allow the registration of the Russian men’s national team in the pre-qualifying Olympic tournament. As a reminder, the national team of Ukraine will participate in this tournament.
