“Following the recommendations of the IOC regarding the participation of athletes with Russian or Belarusian passports in international competitions, published on March 28, the FIBA ​​Executive Committee decided not to allow the registration of the Russian men’s national team for the 2023 FIBA ​​pre-qualifying Olympic tournaments,” the statement said.

Thus, according to the FBU, all participants of the pre-Olympic qualifying tournament have been determined. 16 teams from Europe will play there, including the national men’s team of Ukraine.

From Europe, Ukraine, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Iceland, Israel, the Netherlands, North Macedonia, Poland, Portugal, Sweden, Turkey and Bulgaria will play in the pre-qualification tournament.

The teams will be divided into two groups, which will determine one team each, which will go to the FIBA ​​Olympic qualification tournaments, which will take place in 2024.

The pre-qualification tournament will be held from August 12 to 20, 2023. The selection of tournament hosts will take place at the next meeting of the FIBA ​​Central Council on April 28-29, and the drawing of groups is scheduled for May 1, 2023.
