Elina Svitolina
Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina lost in three sets in her first match after maternity leave – at the WTA 500 Credit One Charleston Open tournament in the USA she played against Yulia Putintseva, representative of Kazakhstan, writes with reference to “Big Tennis of Ukraine”.
In the first set, the tennis players made two breaks each, and Svitolina won one set ball on her serve with a score of 4:5. In the tie-break, the Ukrainian lost 1:3, after which she took six draws in a row.
The second set began with Svitolina losing ten points in a row, after which the Ukrainian still held her serve in the third game. In the fifth game, the Ukrainian lost another game on her serve and Putintseva won the set.
In the deciding game, the tennis players exchanged breaks in the first two games and then held their serves until the score was 3:3.
In the seventh game, Putintseva made a break, which Svitolina immediately returned, but in the ninth game, the Ukrainian again could not hold her serve, and the tennis player from Kazakhstan served for the match at the first attempt. The match lasted 2 hours 48 minutes.
In the end – Elina Svitolina (Ukraine, WC) – Yulia Putintseva (Kazakhstan) 7:6(3), 2:6, 4:6.
After the game, Svitolina commented on her return to tennis: “I had goosebumps… It was really a very nice atmosphere at the stadium. I was glad to see so many people who were rooting for me and supported me in difficult moments, because it was not easy for me physically. But in the end, I am very satisfied with how I played today. Now I see more clearly what needs to be improved in order to play better. What is the biggest positive conclusion from today’s game? I think I hit the ball well, I need to work more on my physical form. There are several points that need to be worked on so that I can maintain my attention more stably, be “in the moment”. Yes, I think that a few such details will help me improve my game.”
Elina Svitolina and Yulia Putnitseva played against each other at the professional level for the ninth time, and Putintseva won for the third time, ending a streak of six defeats in matches with Svitolina.
Elina became a mother only six months ago and has not played in the Tour since March of last year.
