Poland refused to host the Fencing World Cup because of the Russians’ admission

The Polish Fencing Federation refused to hold the women’s stage of the World Cup in Poznań due to the admission of athletes from Belarus and the Russian Federation. Vice-President of the Polish Fencing Federation (PFSz) Adam Konopka told AFP about it, writes .

The publication describes such a development as an “uprising” against the decision of the International Fencing Federation (FIE) to reintegrate Russians and Belarusians into the Olympic sport, which only intensified on Wednesday after the cancellation of the Women’s World Championship stage in Poznań.

“We cannot organize this event under the conditions of the FIE”, which are “imposed” to welcome Russian athletes, Adam Konopka, vice-president of the Polish Fencing Federation (PFSz), told AFP.

The cancellation of the Women’s World Cup in Poznań, which was scheduled for April 21-24, followed the cancellation of the German stage.

The additional significance of such steps is that both tournaments should allow qualification for the Olympic Games in Paris next year. There are only three such events left to reach the qualification standard.

In March, Germany refused to host the Fencing World Cup due to the admission of Russians to the competition.
