Priest Alexey Uminsky was released to the court. Ego can leave dignity

The priest of the Russian Orthodox Church, archpriest Alexei Uminsky, who was previously removed from the rectory in the Moscow Church of the Life-giving Trinity in Khokhly and banned from serving, was summoned to the Moscow Diocesan Court on January 11.
In the relevant document it is indicated that Uminsky is brought in as an accused and must testify in the case of “a church offence, connected with the refusal to read the prescribed prayer for Saint Russia during the divine liturgy”.
We are talking about a special prayer, which speaks of the “victory of Holy Russia”: the head of the Russian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Kirill, who openly supports the war with Ukraine, actually obliged all priests to read it in churches. Those close to Archpriest Uminsky suggest that the church court may strip him of his rank for refusing to do this.
Earlier, the priest of the Church of St. Andrew the First-Called, priest John Koval, was banned from serving and deposed because he replaced the word “victory” with the word “peace” in the prayer “O Holy Russia”.
On January 5, the Moscow Patriarchate banned Alexei Uminsky from ministry and removed him from the rectory of the Church of the Holy Trinity in Khokhly. According to the mass media, the repression against the archpriest followed his anti-military attitude, as stated in an interview with the former editor-in-chief of the radio station “Echo of Moscow” Alexey Venediktov. Archpriest Andriy Tkachyov, known for his support of the invasion of Ukraine, was appointed the abbot of the Trinity Church instead of Uminsky.
- Alexey Uminsky was the rector of the Trinity Church in Khokhly for more than 30 years. He is also known as a publicist who repeatedly criticized the decisions of the Russian authorities and supported political prisoners – in particular, Mikhail Khodorkovsky and Alexei Navalny.
- More than five thousand people signed an open letter to Patriarch Kirill in defense of Uminsky and with a request to review the decision on the ban on ministry.
