The Iglinsky Interdistrict Court of Bashkortostan found 75-year-old Zainulla Hajiev guilty under the article about the so-called “discrediting” of the army. The pensioner was ordered to pay a fine of 100,000 rubles, reports Idel.Realii with a link to the court’s website.

According to the case materials, on January 5, the pensioner wrote a comment in the “Bashkyria Online” public in the “VKontakte” social network. The press service of the court does not disclose what exactly the pensioner wrote.

As noted, Zainulla Hajiyev fully admitted his guilt, which the court took into account when making the decision.

  • The article on administrative responsibility for “discrediting the army” was introduced into the Administrative Administrative Court in March 2022, after the beginning of Russia’s military invasion of Ukraine. Russian courts recognize any anti-war speeches or reports about the participation of Russian troops in probable war crimes as discreditable. The article provides for a fine of up to 50 thousand rubles. In case of repeated “discrediting”, the penalty increases to 100,000. In the case of repeated violations, the case may be reclassified into a criminal case.
