The police of Chechnya started an investigation into the fact of the beating of arrested Nikita Zhuravel in the Grozny pre-trial detention center by the son of the head of Chechnya, Adam Kadyrov. The progress of the investigation is being monitored by the Prosecutor’s Office of Chechnya. According to the results of the investigation, the police must decide whether there were any violations of the law in the actions of 15-year-old Adam Kadyrov.
Zhuravel has been in the Grozny pre-trial detention center since the end of May 2023 on charges of insulting the feelings of believers. According to the investigation, he burned the Koran against the background of a mosque in Volgograd at the behest of the Ukrainian special services.
In mid-August, Zhuravel told the Commissioner for Human Rights in Chechnya that he had been beaten by the son of the head of Chechnya, Adam Kadyrov. At first, Ramzan Kadyrov did not comment on what happened, but at the end of September he published a video of the beating and publicly approved his son’s actions.
After the video appeared, there were no comments from Russian law enforcement agencies. The press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov said: “I don’t want to” when asked by journalists why he won’t talk about the incident.
Human rights activists stated that they plan to send applications to the prosecutor’s office and the Supreme Court to investigate the actions of Kadyrov Jr. for violations of Russian legislation.
