In Crimea, a 23-year-old man was arrested for damaging an installation with the letters Z and V
In the annexed Crimea, the court chose a preventive measure in the form of an arrest for a 23-year-old resident of Bakhchisaray who, according to the investigation, defaced a city installation with the Latin letters Z and V.
The young man, whose name has not been released, was accused of vandalism motivated by political hatred. He will spend the next two months in a pre-trial detention center. In total, he faces up to three years in prison.
On August 26, a video appeared in the Crimean public in which an unknown young man defecates on the glowing letters Z and V installed in one of the squares of Bakhchisaray, accompanied by obscene abuse. Later, a video of his apology, shot in the police department, appeared. In the footage, the young man says that he did not realize his actions because he was drunk, claims that he repents, and also supports the so-called special military operation and the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin.
- Latin letters Z and V are unofficial symbols of support for the military invasion of Ukraine. They can often be found at pro-Kremlin events, propaganda posters and merchandise. Since the beginning of the war, they have been used for tactical marking of Russian military equipment.
