In Latvia, the National Council for Electronic Media (NEPLP) announced a decision to close access to all sites associated with Yandex.

According to the chairman of the council, Ivar Abolinsh, in the future, access to the “Yandex.Muzyka” service, which provides free access to podcasts and similar content “created in Russia by sanctioned persons”, will also be closed. This was reported by Delfi on Thursday.

In April last year, it was reported that NEPLP had decided to limit access to the yandex.ru website and its mirror versions in Latvia. The Council considered that “distorted and false information” about events in the world, including the war in Ukraine, is being distributed on the main page of “Yandex”. The NEPLP considered that such information could create a false impression of events in the world, Meduza writes.

Disagreeing with the decision of the NEPLP, “Yandex” filed an appeal with the Administrative District Court, which will consider the application in writing on February 29, 2024.
