Fighters of the Chechen battalion “Vostok-Akhmat” attacked a military police officer who was checking documents in Melitopol, occupied by Russian troops, in the south of the Zaporozhye region of Ukraine. The moment of the conflict was recorded on a video recorder and was published on the network, says Kavkaz.Realii.

A two-minute video of the incident was published by a number of Russian pro-military Telegram channels. On the recording, the Russian military stops a convoy of foreign cars, including a black Mercedes with Moscow license plates, and asks for travel documents. The driver hands over the paper, according to him, it’s a temporary pass. The verifier declares that the document is considered invalid, since the terms of its validity must be prescribed by law.

“I don’t care what you think. I’m a battalion commander,” replied the driver, using profanity. When the inspector asked him to park, other soldiers got out of the car and hit him several times. The video shows some of them twisting the bolt of a pistol. You can hear the sounds of blows and speech in Chechen language. The video cuts off at this point.

According to the Sota and VChK-OGPU telegram channels, the commander of the “Vostok-Akhmat” battalion, Vakha Khambulatov, was in the car. The authors of the publication “Donbass and we” claim that the conflict occurred in the center of Melitopol near the “Kvartal” shopping center. On the document presented by Khambulatov, the unit number is visible – the 291st Guards Motorized Rifle Regiment of the Russian Army, stationed in Borzoi.

Earlier, the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, repeatedly mentioned on his channel the commander of the “Vostok-Akhmat” battalion, Major Vakha Khambulatov with the call sign Ashab. In October 2023, he was awarded the highest award of the republic – the Order of Akhmat Kadyrov. The Russian military did not comment on the incident with the beating.
