A court in St. Petersburg arrested a 67-year-old native of Dagestan on a criminal case of attempted secret cooperation with a foreign state. This was reported by the press service of the city’s courts.
According to the investigation, the accused, whose name has not been released, turned to the main intelligence department of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and “announced his intentions to release information to the Ukrainian side and take specific actions that may contribute to the military defeat of the Russian Federation.”
The press service writes that the FSB officers “found out everything quickly”, without specifying how exactly this was done. After this meeting and correspondence took place under the supervision of the special service.
After the arrest, the accused refused to testify. The court remanded him until March 11.
- In 2023, at least 148 people in Russia were charged with treason, espionage and secret cooperation with foreigners, and at least 88 such cases were brought to court. Human rights activists believe that the real number of cases can be much larger, and the pace of prosecution will continue to grow in 2024.
