The National Security Council of Iran has approved the presence of women in some of the country’s football stadiums during local championship matches. This was reported by the head of the Iranian Football Federation, Mehdi Taj.
The ban on women attending matches has been in effect since the Islamic Revolution of 1979.
According to Taj, a working group has been created to work on the implementation of the decision. “The Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Sports and Youth Policy, the Football Federation and two news agencies are engaged in planning the details of the passage of women,” the official noted.
Since 1979, women have been allowed to enter stadiums in Iran only for certain matches, for example, for a friendly game with Russia in March of this year.
Last August, for the first time, Iranian women were allowed to enter the stadium, where it was possible to watch a professional match of the local championship between the teams “Esteglal” and “Sanat Mes Kerman”. For 500 women, separate entrances and sectors were set aside.
