Monson took the fifth place in the list of United Russia in Bashkortostan. According to the results of the voting on September 10, the party received 87 out of 110 seats in the kurultae (41 of them according to the lists). Monson confirmed to TASS that he was elected as a deputy, and did not say that he would give up his mandate.

Monson, who called himself an anarcho-communist and criticized US policy and capitalism, received Russian citizenship in 2018. Back in 2014, he supported pro-Russian separatists in eastern Ukraine. In the fall of 2018, he was elected deputy in Krasnogorsk near Moscow, and in this post he criticized the Russian authorities and President Vladimir Putin on a number of social issues. Monson supported the invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

According to the new version of the Constitution of Russia, Monson, as a holder of foreign citizenship, could not run for parliament. However, in May 2023, he announced that he renounced his US citizenship and submitted his passport to the American consulate in Istanbul. At the same time, he became a candidate for Kurultai deputy.

Monson has been active in Bashkortostan for some time, in particular, in 2021 he opened a jiu-jitsu and grappling school in Ufa. Monson announced his intention to hold the last fight of his career in his “native Ufa” in August; There are no reports that the fight took place.
