Journalist Liza Lazerson reported that she will not return to the air of the “Live Nail” channel. Earlier, she was temporarily suspended from work after she told an anti-Semitic joke on the live broadcast of the channel. Lazerson compared her removal to the persecution of dissidents in the USSR.
On October 21, during an online marathon in support of the Lazerson channel, in a dialogue with its founder Alexei Venediktov, she told an anecdote about “the difference between a wagon with concrete and a wagon with dead Jewish babies”, accompanying it with the comment “Actualochka!” She emphasized that this is her favorite joke.
There was no immediate reaction from Venediktov on the air. The presenter’s statement caused sharp indignation among the marathon spectators, including those living in Israel. The next day, both Venediktov and Lazerson apologized. Venediktov added that Lazerson will be removed from the air for two months.
Lazerson, however, said that she was resigning from the channel. “The joke was really terrible, but it was told at the beginning of the six-hour broadcast on the collection of donations in favor of “Living Nail” at the request of the donor, in the presence of Alexei Venediktov, who later said that he had problems with communication at that moment. Now I understand, why in the Soviet Union they were imprisoned for jokes,” she wrote.
- The Live Nail channel on YouTube was created by Alexey Venediktov after the closure of the Echo of Moscow radio station, where he worked as the editor-in-chief.
